Perception

Today I will embark on the idea of PERCEPTION! What a double edge sword it is! I think we can all agree on this. You see things one way and they see it another. We are programed to react to things because of the way we perceive them. How can we unite in this world if we all have this ego behind this so called independent perception? In order for us to grow in this ever changing world we must change the way we perceive obstacles. Our perception about other people can also be a tough subject. There's a quote I fancy whenever I feel like someone misunderstands me...

For example: I'm driving down the road and someone cuts me off! I can choose to perceive this event one of two ways.  I can get mad and start yelling and raise my stress levels. I can look at it like this person is doing this to me. For this example I have perceive this in a negative way having the idea that this person did it to ruin my day.

Hey, I'm not saying that I don't ever have those days where it seems like everyone is out to get me! Noticed I used the word SEEMS...I don't let myself feel that way because whats the point... right? I've never been one to take it personally and let something like that ruin my day nor should you. However, coming from someone who has a different perception of the world, if they see things negatively then it's very possible that they will feel like it was a personal attack. I know... even as I'm writing this it sounds a bit extreme but it happens all the time.

So, what made me change and start this new way of thinking?

True story...My friend and I was on the city bus with all our grocery bags, it was late, I was tired, hungry and I noticed we needed to run to catch the other bus or we would have to wait 45 minutes for the next ride home. As we were rushing down the street with heavy bags I felt the handles cutting into my hands... OUCH!! It was winter so that didn't help either.

Out of nowhere this lady stops my friend and asks him for a dollar, I was walking behind him and didn't know what the women wanted at the time. My friend is a very good person but he didn't want us to miss the bus, his money was inside one of the bags and it would've took a moment look through each of them to find it. So he politely said "I'm sorry we're in a hurry" Then she came up to me and when I looked in her eyes, I don't know why but I got this feeling inside that I had to stop everything I was doing and give her that dollar.

I grew up in this area so I know all the people that roam the streets asking for money and she wasn't one of them. In fact, I've never seen this women in my life. She had the clearest skin, bluest eyes and an angelic glow about her. When she asked me I immediately looked in my purse! Noticed I left it behind!! OH NO!! I looked up to tell her that I was so sorry but she was gone!! Just like that! I quick ran to the bus station, told them what happened, they called the driver and confirmed that my purse was laying on the seat. I got it back and nothing was missing:) I had over $80 along with other very important papers, check book, Id...etc well, you get the point<3

Thank you lady for asking me for a dollar who ever you are!

I made a promise to myself that day, I promised that if I'm ever late to appointment because of traffic, if there's a long line at the store and it takes longer, if someone cuts in front of me. I will think of it as a blessing<3 I might have avoided a major accident, who knows?! To maintain a healthy way of life we must have positive thoughts even in the most challenging moments. Have you watched The Secret?

Think about it...
