Red, Red Wine!!

As I write this blog I'm sipping on a glass of organic wine after a long day at the Health food store. Last week we had a wine tasting at the store and it was really interesting, It got me thinking that not all wines are made the same. We have regular wines and we have organic wines but we call them regular, I don't like calling them regular wine because 50 years ago all food was organic, and the wine was too, so is it really regular anymore? Not really...

I love when customers ask what is the different between organic and non-organic. When I answer them the facial expressions I get are priceless. They are in shock and now I have their attention. Non-organic wines are heavily sprayed with pesticides, herbicides and chemicals. They are poisons, YES, that right POISONS!! When I first understood this I knew right away what I had to do for my health and my son who was 5 years old at the time. Wow... that day was a wake up call.

As I looked though my refrigerator and cabinets I had to gasp for air as I looked at all the toxic chemicals I was eating and feeding my son. I hung my head down in shame thinking, how could I have been so ignorant? All I had to do was look at the label, do a little research and I would have known about this a long time ago. I remember that day like it was yesterday.

Back to my beloved Wine!! Antioxidants in red wine may help prevent heart disease by increasing levels of "good" cholesterol and protecting against artery damage.Ok, but everything in moderation people! You never want to do too much of anything. Resveratrol is found in red wine and it's anti-aging properties are proven. The key to slowing down aging lies in the fact that it can activate a class of longevity genes found in the body that are known as sirtuins. For those of you who are not familiar with it, sirtuins reduce the cellular decay while imparting greater power to your cells for repairing themselves.

Thanks for reading...Sfly
